Mel Badenhorst

Mel studied Fine Art at the University of Cape Town, and after living in the UK for 20 years Mel moved to New Zealand in 2012. Mel is a painter, drawer and ceramic artist, currently studying the Diploma in Ceramics by Otago University.

Inspired by nature, mythology, dreams and exploration of her personal history and ancestral past, Mels work is expressive visually using free flowing brushstrokes that translate into a colourists view of glazes and the alchemy of the fire. Mel’s ceramic practice extends her art practice into 3D; with the opportunity to blur the lines between ceramic as function and move into sculpture and colour work.
